Volant Air Risk
The Volant Air Risk panel integrates ground risk map data from the Volant platform to support operational risk assessments for BVLOS and complex flight authorisations.
Overview
Volant Air Risk displays a colour-coded ground risk overlay on the map, indicating population density, infrastructure sensitivity, and obstacle density across the operational area. Operators can adjust a bias value to model more conservative or permissive risk profiles.
This panel is visible when the Volant integration is configured and enabled for your organisation.
Ground Risk Map
The ground risk overlay is displayed as a semi-transparent colour layer on top of the base map:
| Colour | Risk Level |
|---|---|
| Green | Low ground risk — sparsely populated or open land |
| Amber | Moderate risk — residential or light urban |
| Red | High risk — dense urban or critical infrastructure |

Bias Configuration
The bias slider or input field adjusts the risk model’s sensitivity. Increasing the bias shifts more areas toward higher risk classifications, which is appropriate for more conservative operational requirements or regulatory submissions.

Using Ground Risk Data in Mission Planning
The ground risk overlay is visible during mission planning, allowing operators to route missions away from high-risk areas. Risk values for the planned route can be exported as part of the operational risk assessment documentation.

Volant Air Risk data is sourced from Volant’s platform and is updated periodically. Always verify that the data version is current before using it for regulatory submissions.
