Zones & Geofences
Zones and geofences let you draw spatial boundaries on the map. No-fly zones mark areas the drone must not enter. Geofences define the intended operational boundary for a flight. Both types are drawn interactively on the map, saved to your account, and displayed persistently across sessions.
No-Fly Zones vs Geofences
| Feature | No-Fly Zone | Geofence |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Mark areas the drone should avoid | Mark the intended operational boundary |
| Shape options | Circle, Polygon, Corridor | Circle, Polygon |
| Displayed on map | Yes, as a filled zone | Yes, as a 3D wall overlay |
| Enforced | Advisory — generates warnings | Advisory — generates warnings |
Drawing a No-Fly Zone
Circle No-Fly Zone
- Select No-fly Zone: Circle from the map tools.
- Click on the map to place the zone centre. A widget panel opens on the left.
- In the widget, edit the Name for this zone.
- Adjust Longitude and Latitude by typing coordinates directly if you need a precise location.
- Set the Radius in metres. The minimum radius is 10 m.
- Choose a Color using the color picker.
- Toggle Active on or off — inactive zones are saved but do not generate warnings.
- Click Save No-fly Zone to confirm, or Remove to discard.
Polygon No-Fly Zone
- Select No-fly Zone: Polygon from the map tools.
- Click on the map to place the first vertex. Keep clicking to add more vertices. The polygon is drawn live as you place points.
- In the widget panel:
- Use the left/right arrow buttons to navigate between vertices (shown as 1/3, 2/3, etc.)
- Edit Longitude and Latitude for the selected vertex if you need precise coordinates
- Delete a specific vertex with the bin icon
- Give the zone a Name.
- Optionally set a Time to Live (Days) — the zone expires and is deactivated automatically after this many days. Enter 0 for no expiry.
- Choose a Color and toggle Active.
- Once you have placed at least 3 vertices, click Save No-fly Zone.
- To discard all points, click Remove All.
Corridor No-Fly Zone
A corridor is a no-fly buffer drawn along a route, useful for protecting road or rail corridors.
- Select No-fly Zone: Corridor from the map tools.
- Click the map to place a series of path points (minimum 2).
- In the widget, navigate between points using the arrow buttons.
- Set the Width (metres) to control how far on each side of the centre line the zone extends.
- Set Name, Time to Live, Color, and Active as with a polygon zone.
- Click Save No-fly Zone.
Drawing a Geofence
Geofences render as 3D walls on the map rather than flat filled shapes, making them easy to distinguish from no-fly zones.
Circle Geofence
- Select Geofence: Circle from the map tools.
- Click to place the centre. The widget panel opens.
- Enter a Name, edit coordinates if needed, set the Radius (minimum 10 m), choose a Color, and toggle Active.
- Click Save Geofence.
Polygon Geofence
- Select Geofence: Polygon from the map tools.
- Click to place at least 3 vertices.
- Edit vertex coordinates in the widget, set Name, Time to Live, Color, and Active.
- Click Save Geofence.
Managing Saved Zones
Saved zones and geofences are listed in the Zones panel (accessible from the sidebar). From there you can:
- View all active and inactive zones
- Toggle a zone active or inactive without deleting it
- Delete a zone
To edit the shape or coordinates of an existing zone, delete it and redraw it.

Zone Behaviour During Flight
When the connected drone approaches a no-fly zone or exits a geofence boundary the dashboard raises a warning. The drone does not stop automatically — the warning is advisory and requires the operator to take action.
Zone enforcement is advisory and relies on the aircraft’s GPS position. Always observe regulatory airspace restrictions regardless of whether a zone is drawn in the dashboard.
